DENISE Perry’s flair for interior design is obvious to all when taking a walk around her impressive house.
The mum-of-one has utterly transformed the three-bedroom property she shares with her family, into a haven of light and colour.
And she’s now taking her passion for decorating to the next level – by studying for a qualification in it.
“The house was very neutral when we moved in, with all cream and plain walls,” said Denise, 41, who is married to Mark, one of the directors of Bomar Offshore.
“It was a blank canvas, which was perfect for me, as I enjoy planning how my rooms are going to look.
“Friends have said to me that I should do something with interior design and so I have just started studying for an online course.”
Denise and Mark, 42, were drawn to the house by its location in family-friendly Kingswells, after several years of living in the city.
And with its close proximity to Kingswells Primary School, No14 Migvie Grove was an ideal home for them and 10-year-old son Tyler
Denise has enjoyed putting her own stamp on the place, with bright colours and lots of character evident in every room.
Apart from taking down a wall in the kitchen to make it into a spacious dining kitchen, and putting in a new kitchen and bathroom, the stunning effects you see are mostly down to clever use of colours and furnishings.
“My favourite room is probably the lounge because it’s so big and the dining room is open plan, accessed through an archway,” said Denise.
“I’d describe my taste as modern, but a little bit different at the same time.
“Sometimes I have a very set idea of how I want something to look and it takes me a long time to make it a reality and find the items I need, but I get there in the end.”
Take the dining room chairs. Each bought for a bargain price at auction, Denise upholstered them herself after attending a class and describes the overall look as “shabby chic”.
Some of her other quirky purchases include a striking mirror feature made from metal tubes in her lounge, sparkly quartz tiles for her bathroom floor and a “decal” sticker for the wall of the master bedroom, which transfers an intricate design onto the wall.
She’s further embellished the pattern with sticky diamantes, which look wonderful in the glow of the chandelier light.
After just a couple of years in Kingswells, the family are on the move once more and Denise is itching to get her hands on another project.
“It gets addictive you see,” she said, laughing.
“So I’m already thinking about what we’ll do in our new home.”
