Lawrie’s kids help him improve on putting green

‘Just line them up – it’s easy’

ABERDEEN’S Paul Lawrie today revealed his kids have helped improve his putting.

The former Open champion hopes to stay in contention at the Irish Open following a strong opening round at Killarney.

Lawrie, two behind England’s David Howell after his five-under-par 66, was delighted with his form on the greens.

He said: “That was my best putting round of the year by far.

“I’ve been lining the ball up with my kids – they kind of talked me into it.

“They’ve been doing it for ages. They have these wee devices that you put the marker pen on and have been saying ‘Dad, why are you missing all these putts? Just line them up – it’s easy’.”
