Hartley set for talks with Aberdeen FC
Midfielder to meet McGhee in England
Published:
ABERDEEN FC were today closing in on signing Paul Hartley and hoped to conclude a deal in the next 24 hours.
The midfielder, who wants a return to Scotland, was set to secure his release on a free transfer from Bristol City.
Hartley was then due to head for talks with Aberdeen FC manager Mark McGhee and director of football Willie Miller.
A source close to the player confirmed Hartley was expected to meet with them at their Loughborough University training camp, either today or tomorrow.

Hendrie actually going to sign? Seems this has dragged on for a ridiculous amount of time. surely we have offered the player a deal he finds acceptable and if not can we move on? Why keep stalling and dithering with talks? As for Hartley, another player I'd like to see at Todders, hopefully though talks wityh him won't take as long as Hendries have. Be good to get all the players signed and setlled ASAP.

Obviously Hendrie must be stalling on giving AFC an answer as he thinks a better opportunity may come up.... As for Hartley I think he is the more proven player, given he was playing well for Bristol last season and still looks fit and hungry to play - whether he is happy to move up to Aberdeen, I'm not convinced...

Last week MM said Hendrie was definitely going to sign and we had nothing to worry about. Why didn't he sign when he was in Aberdeen?

McGhee has never said that Mark, he said he was confident of getting the deal done but there were issues to work out. He has said that from day one of this story breaking...

Brian, I think MM did say something in that sort of tone, I think Hendrie has come up, gotten some good press, played a few minutes and is now waiting for a better offer. I think Hendire would be a really good addition to our squad but I'd prefer Paul Hartley given the choice, so lets sustain all our efforts onto him now I'd say, Hendrie obviously isn't too convinced to move up it seems, for whichever reason. So no disrespect to the guy but I think we should move on from him now. AFC seem to be the club where a player can turn up, and dither with the management team, citing "financial," reasons and whatever, to see if they can get more money else where, which is fair enough. however, AFC as a club should draw the line and move on.

here you go Paul, http://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/Article.aspx/1833635, http://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/Article.aspx/1837043 and http://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/Article.aspx/1832274 Its Mr Charlie Allan that has been talking like the signing is in the bag and thats probably because he's been picking up the "he's in the bag' signals we all were... AFC even had his picture on the site and in their write up of the Dunfermline game they called him the new signing. McGhee in public though has always tried to be optimistically cautious with this one, probably because he knows what we are all like and already have the noose waiting if Hartley and/or Hendrie dont sign ;-P
