Star pair sign for Aberdeen FC
McGhee seals deals for Folly and Vernon
Published:
ABERDEEN FC today signed two new players and promised there will be more to come this week.
Former Colchester and Blackpool striker Scott Vernon and trialist midfielder Yoann Folly have signed two-year deals.
Both were unveiled at the training camp at Loughbrough University.
Aberdeen FC boss McGhee revealed he is in advanced talks to secure midfielder Lee Hendrie and full-backs Grant Basey and Robbie Williams. Paul Hartley is also still on McGhee’s radar
McGhee said: “These are two good signings for us and we hope to make others before we go to Brighton.
“Things are starting to fall into place as Scott will make a big difference to how we play.
“I’ve said all along that Josh Magennis was never going to be the replacement for Lee Miller because he lacks experience.
“Scott is much more of the finished article.
“He’s a career centre-forward who has proven he can do a job at a certain level. He will do well in the SPL.”
Aberdeen FC have also secured former Plymouth and Southampton midfielder Folly.
“With Folly I believe we have found the best possible player to replace Mark Kerr,” said McGhee.
“It’s been a good day for us so far.”

Just looked up Vernon on wikipedia, seems he's spent his career to date knocking around a few League One in England, such as Oldham, Blackpool and Colchester. Delighted to hear Hearts have messed up trying to sign Hartley (see today's Sun), really hope he now signs for us as I think he would be an excellent player for the Dons.

Fair play MM, shame you haven't been given the £600k from Lee Millers sale, but thats what we as fans expected when we pay WM £350k a year so he put another business down a drain. I wonder what you could have done with that £350k as well, probably signed another decent player I expect. Anyway, new players coming in this week, hopefully we can get off to a cracking start in the SPL. Well done MM.

Paul - we didnt receive 600K for Miller so paying it out would be impossible. The Miller fee included appearances, goals etc from my understanding and he's done nowt so we only got the initial 200K. Some of that would've went towards MacLean and Paterson last season and some has went into the pot for wages this season. If it hadnt then I doubt we'd be able to speak to both Hartley and Hendrie... You've more than doubled Millers wage, the details are available in the annual report (150K) I bet he's happy with the wage rise you've just given him ;). Welcome aboard lads and good luck for the season coming!

£350K a year for Willie Miller! Wise up, try taking away £200K & you'll be nearer his actual wage & in my opinion he's worth it after the work he's done with the youth system - bringing back Lenny Taylor was a masterstroke. Since he's came back we've consistently signed a better quality of player unless you were happy with likes of Leon Mike & Leigh Hinds being our main signings?

Star pair - where did they star??????????? - AFC are in amongst the down and outs of football struggling to sign the likes of these - WHAT a long long long long way we have fallen. I do not wish to be pessimistic BUT having seen dross for the last few years there is nothing MM or his signings have done so far to tell me we r not going to be relegated. If we are not then the rest of the SPL must be REALLY dire.

No no no no to Hartley. Definitely NO. He doesn't want to play for us, so why even bother with him?? He is over-rated, and I would say let's sign Hendrie and a younger option than Hartley. Am very happy with the way the signings are going now, and MM you've done a good job so far in your dealings in the transfer market. I see very little place in the squad now for Barren Mackie - especially with all the young strikers we have vying for the first team and now Vernon as well. Can't wait for the season to start so we can properly see what talent we've got. As for WM - yes he's done a great job with the youth academy, but no, that doesn't excuse what he has done to many people. He shouldn't be allowed near an accounting book, or allowed to run his own businesses ever again anywhere.

Bill Bright - you're really not as cheery as your name would suggest are you? Goodness me, give the lads a chance to at least kick a ball before you slag them off.

Red Andy - please show me WHERE I slagged off the new signings - READ what I said before criticising. Can u tell me where this pair starred - I would like to know - perhaps u r so blinkered and easily conned that ANYTHING from AFC or EE will be treated as gospel. Perhaps u should ask how season ticket sales r going???????
