ABERDEEN FC strikers were today warned they will have to fight for the right to still be at Pittodrie when the new season starts.
Boss Mark McGhee has taken in Scott Vernon on a two-year deal and the big man is viewed as a potential replacement for Lee Miller.
He has also taken Aston Villa youngster Jim Collins on trial, with a view to sorting out a season-long loan deal at Aberdeen FC.
The 19-year-old, who was born in England but has been capped at Under-21 level for the Republic of Ireland, impressed when he came on as a substitute in the 1-1 friendly draw at Tamworth.
Josh Magennis, who was signed last week, Darren Mackie, Chris Maguire, Michael Paton and Mitch Megginson also featured in the game against the Blue Square Premier League side.
It means McGhee will soon have seven strikers in his first team squad and he admits that will be too many to carry.
“It’s clear we are going to have to filter them out a bit and decide who’s going to be best suited to play,” said McGhee.
“Whatever we decide it’s looking as if some of the others may have to go out on loan if they want a regular game.
“They can’t have that many sitting on the sidelines for most of the season.”
