GOLFING great Mark O’Meara today teed off in the Grampian Houston Junior Pro-Am at Royal Aberdeen.
The American won The Open at Royal Birkdale and The Masters at Augusta National in 1998.
The event in Aberdeen will help raise money to place talented youngsters on golf scholarships in Houston.
Last year O’Meara helped coach the Scots kids as part of their 10-day tour.
He said: “It is a real pleasure for me to be here in Aberdeen to participate in the Grampian Houston pro-am.
“I met the team of 2009 at River Oaks Country Club and experienced first hand their excitement at being part of the programme.
“I would hope that the American Juniors who are here with us represent their clubs, the City of Houston and the USA, as well as their Scottish counterparts did last year.
“The good folks of Aberdeen are doing a wonderful thing with this programme.
“An education is the most important thing a young person can obtain.
“This foundation is making a difference in young people’s lives, now, in both countries.
“Scotland is one of my favourite countries in the world. Although I am of Irish descent, the ‘Home of Golf’ will always have a special place in my heart.”
