THERE’S something about the waft of a chipper that just lures you in like beer into brewery.

So wandering past the local fish bar on a warm summer’s night, there was only one place we were going for dinner – and it wasn’t the kitchen.

And although we had a wee wait for our food, it was well worth it as the odours emanating from the fryer just whetted the appetite.

Remarkably, The Boss decided on something that wasn’t chicken fillets when she opted for a scampi supper (£5.35).

Coated in lovely, dark breadcrumbs, there was a feeling the fish itself may have been overcooked. But on impact, it was nice and juicy with a real fishy taste.

My steak and gravy pie supper (£3.70) was, like the scampi, fine and crispy on the outside, but the meat was just a bit too fatty for my liking. The chips were perfect with a fine mix of crispy ones and real tattie-taste.

With a side portion of onion rings, the total bill was a bargain £10.55.
