AS I am currently the proudest mum in the world after my son received an A pass in his exam I thought he deserved a celebratory slap-up meal.
So where better to take him than family-friendly F&B’s.
At age 27 he’s a wee bit old to appreciate the colouring-in books and crayons!
But, back in the day when it first opened around 15 years ago, my loon couldn’t get enough of the place – especially the bacon cheeseburgers.
Even though Ryan and I were there before 6pm we had a 10-minute wait at the bar area before being seated.
My loon wouldn’t mind me saying he’s a wee bit fussy when it comes to certain food, and once he was assured by the friendly waiter there would be no hint of mustard anywhere near his sticky wings (£4.95) he was happy.
I’m currently trying to fit into last year’s bikini, so I passed on a starter.
But when Ryan’s plate arrived I found myself unable to resist the lovely aroma as he set about tucking into a plate of five large chicken wings, served with BBQ sauce, celery sticks, and lemon and honey dressing.
I can confirm the one I had was fine and a clean plate from number one son confirmed he thought so too.
On to the main course, and Ryan decided the New York Chicken (£12.45) would definitely hit the spot, while I – being a creature of habit – couldn’t see past the spaghetti carbonara (£8.15).
I ordered a garlic pizza bread with mozzarella cheese (£3.85) to go with my dish, and Rye ordered a warm Ciabatta bread (£2.45) for his chip buttie.
My dish was fab and I made short work of it, happily soaking up the creamy cheese sauce with my garlic bread.
The loon’s dish of chicken breast topped with crispy bacon and Monterey Jack cheese was smothered in BBQ sauce, and came served with spicy onion rings, corn on the cob, coleslaw and fries.
He wolfed down his main in no time at all, and declared it “delicious”.
Feeling guilty about polishing off two high-calorie carb dishes I opted out of the dessert.
But Rye couldn’t resist Mamma’s Chocolate Marble (£4.35), a digestive crumb base, layered with chocolate brownie and a cheesecake loaded with brownies, ice cream and chocolate sauce.
With a couple of chocolate milk shakes thrown in (£5.50), our bill came to an impressive £41.70 – meaning it won’t be long till we head back again.
Only next time ... he’s paying!
