PETER Houston has agreed to become Dundee United’s manager on a permanent basis.

The 51-year old will put pen-to-paper on a new three-year contract with the club within the next 48 hours.

Houston said: “I met with the chairman and he has asked me to become the permanent manager of Dundee United.

“I’m thrilled and honoured to be asked the question.

“I expect everything to be done before the end of the week. Things will be tied up, I don’t expect any problems.”

Saturday saw Houston lead United to Scottish Cup glory with their win over Ross County – their first success in the competition for 16 years.

It was also only the fifth major trophy the club have won in their 100-year history.

Houston was placed in charge initially until the end of the season following Craig Levein’s departure for the Scotland job.
