King’s Chinese Takeaway: The Square, Mintlaw

MEMORIES are made of this ... this eatery reminded me so much of the Chinese take-out I frequented when I was growing up in Stockethill.

Bottles of juice stacked in the same place, the same calendar hanging on the wall – it gave a real sense of deja vu.

But would the food bring back fond memories too, especially since I had ordered my old favourite, beef curry (£5.20, including boiled rice)?

It did.

The sauce was not too hot, tasty and made the tender slivers of beef go down well.

I ordered battered chicken with sweet and sour sauce (£5.20) for my mum. The chicken pieces were huge and there were about half a dozen of them.

The succulent chicken and batter seemed to dissolve in my mouth and were a real treat in combination with the tangy sauce. Served with a portion of fried rice (£1.60) it was more than a satisfying meal.
