TWO Aberdeen men have been fined a total of £2,700 for attacking Aberdeen Football Club skipper Mark Kerr.
The assault happened in Aberdeen’s Belmont Street outside The Priory just three days before Aberdeen FC’s most important game of the season.
His two attackers John Robb and Robert Hay both admitted the assault on May 20 last year. It left the Aberdeen midfielder with a fractured cheekbone and saw him miss the rest of the season.
Hay, of 10 Shetland Walk, Aberdeen, admitted assault to severe injury by punching Mr Kerr on the head, knocking him unconscious and attempting to kick him.
Robb, of 90 Bonnyview Drive, Aberdeen, admitted assaulting Mr Kerr, punching him on the head and body and kicking him on the body.
Hay was fined £2,250 and Robb £450.
Hay’s defence agent Paul Barnett said his client was standing at the bar in The Priory with a female friend when he was approached by Mr Kerr.
He claimed the Aberdeen player banged into Hay, 24, repeatedly and was abusive towards him.
Mr Barnett said Mr Kerr was asked to leave the club by doorman Mark Bennett. A stand-up fight took place outside.
Fiscal depute Felicity Primrose said Mr Kerr was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment after being unconscious for “a couple of minutes”.
Mr Barnett said Mr Hay recognised his behaviour was “unacceptable”.
He also said he believed the conduct of Mr Kerr had been “purely appalling.”
Robb’s defence agent Alex Burn said his client felt Kerr had given his female companion a rough time.
