UNITE union officials were due to meet their US counterparts today over the planned strike by British Airways cabin crew.
The meeting between Unite officials and representatives of the American Teamsters union in Washington DC was criticised by the airline.
A British Airways spokesman said it was sad to see Unite attempt to get overseas backing for “unjustified strikes against an iconic British brand”.
Shadow transport secretary Theresa Villiers said the Unite union was “hell-bent” on causing maximum disruption for travellers.
