POLICE were today hunting for a robber who stole mail from an Aberdeen postal worker.

A Royal Mail spokeswoman today said the postwoman had been left shaken by the Aberdeen attack.

She said: “I can confirm there was a postwoman mugged. They have stolen some mail that was in a pouch.

“The lady is not hurt but she was left shaken.

“We’re investigating and working with Grampian Police.”

The robbery happened on Aberdeen’s North Anderson Drive.

It was understood three police officers visited the postwoman at her sorting office on Whitemyres Avenue in Mastrick.

The woman has been given leave from her shifts for the next few days.

Grampian Police were today looking for a 6ft man in his late teens or early 20s in connection with the incident.

He is believed to have been wearing a black beanie hat, with blonde hair visible underneath, and a black tracksuit top.

A police spokesman said: “We are investigating the robbery of a Royal Mail postal worker in the Mastrick area of Aberdeen.

“As a result of the incident, a quantity of letters were stolen.”

Sheddocksley councillor Wendy Stuart said she was “appalled” when she heard of the mugging.

“It’s shocking that it happened in daylight,” she said.

“These folks with wicked minds seem to be getting braver and braver. They should be made to feel ashamed of themselves.”

Cllr Stuart said she thought tougher sentences were needed for these sort of crimes in order to stop them from happening in the future.
