MacLean aiming for win in Perth

ABERDEEN FC’s Steven MacLean is desperate to shoot down St Johnstone tonight as he insists he did not become a Don to play bottom six football.

The on-loan Plymouth striker is keen to remain at Aberdeen FC next season, but wants to face the top guns before then.

Aberdeen FC travel to Perth knowing victory is vital to boost their hopes of landing a place in the upper half of the SPL come the split.

MacLean said: “I definitely don’t want to play in the bottom six.

“It’s not just me. All of the lads are the same. So we will be doing our utmost tonight, on Saturday and for the rest of the season to avoid that.

“I want to play in the big games, but you have to earn the right to do that.

“We face St Johnstone tonight and then Dundee United on Saturday. We have to look to win both matches.

“We have to take one game at a time. But if we don’t win tonight and then we win at the weekend, there is no point.

“The boys are up for it and hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves. The most important thing is getting three points, no matter how we do it.”

The 27-year-old striker knows he needs goals to impress potential employers as he looks to win a permanent move away from Plymouth.

MacLean still has a year left on his deal at Home Park, although is desperate to leave and admits he could yet end up at Aberdeen log-term.

He said: “I don’t want to go back to Plymouth but I just need to wait and see what happens.

“Hopefully I will get a permanent move in the summer. I have an open mind and it could happen here, but it’s a long way away.”

Funny how the weeks go by and the target falls. In a months time we'll be aiming to stay out of relegation. This is my first comment in a LONG time, so if your reading this Brian Henderson, what do you have to say now?

I actually think it's best if we don't make the top six this season... the more practice we get at trying to beat teams at the lower end of the league the better... perhaps it may even teach the players a thing or two for next season...

i agree roger, past seasons under JC were awful, finishing in the top 4, if only JC had top 6 dreams he might still be there. note the sarcasm.
