SCOTTISH Opera professionals are heading to Aberdeen to perform an infant-friendly show aimed at babies aged between six and 18 months.

The musical extravaganza – which has no lyrics, narrative or plot – is titled The Baby O show.

And some of Aberdeen’s most deprived areas will be entertained with a performance of the 30-minute opera.

The show is performed by three vocalists, who will introduce babies to music by using sight, texture and sound.

Tots will be encouraged to interact as much as possible during the show, which will be set in a secret garden filled with ducks, busy bees, welly boots, water and umbrellas.

And the audience will even be invited to crawl on the furry garden set which features hand puppets.

The show was developed by Scottish Opera’s director of education Jane Davidson.

“We were delighted that Baby O went down so well at the research stage,” she said.

“The babies loved the flying bees and bright wellies and were completely enthralled with the strange and wonderful sights and sounds.”

The opera is set to play at The Lemon Tree in the city and Aberdeen communities, including Tillydrone.

Tillydrone community flat and creche worker Helen Polson welcomed the production and said it was “fantastic”.

Three performances will take place at Tillydrone Family Centre, Aberdeen on Thursday, April 29.
