FORMER Evening Express Champion of Champions scratch title winner Gregg Walker is aiming for a near perfect 10 this season.

Gregg, who won the North-east District’s most prestigious matchplay tournament two years ago, is aiming to lift the Alford club championship for a 10th time this year.

“I’ve won the Alford club championship nine times in the last 10 years and it’s an ambition to get that 10th victory,” said Gregg.

“I lifted last year’s tournament by six shots and recorded a course record of seven-under-par 62 in the second round of the 72-hole competition for a third time.”

Gregg also won the Alford Open for a third time with a five-under 64 but added: “I’ve also had a great run in the Evening Express Champion of Champions during the last two seasons.

“I felt fantastic when I beat Liam Sang at the last hole in the final at Oldmeldrum two years ago.

“There is no doubt that was the biggest achievement of my golfing career and I had a pretty good run again last year before losing out to Hazlehead’s David Law in the third round.

“I’m obviously looking for another good performance again this season.”

Club secretaries and competitors are reminded that the closing date for entries for both the scratch and handicap tournaments, which are sponsored by Aspire Golf Centre, is Monday.

North-east District secretary George Young can be contacted on 01346 582 324 for more details.

Both finals will be played at Newburgh on Sunday, September 5.
