A MAN has escaped a jail sentence after admitting having sex with a 14-year-old girl in Aberdeen.

Michael Ross, 21, was sentenced to two years’ probation at Aberdeen Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to having unlawful sex with the girl.

The offence was discovered after the girl found out she was pregnant – but Ross was not the father.

The offence happened at an address in Aberdeen between January 12 and May 1 last year.

Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard Ross was 20 at the time of the offence, which he admitted when he appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court in February this year.

Ross who had no previous convictions, was put on the Sex Offenders’ Register after his admission but sentence was deferred so reports could be prepared.

Sheriff Kieran McLernan sentenced Ross to probation when he appeared to face sentence at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.

Ross, whose address was given in court papers as 1 Menie Close, Balmedie, was ordered to carry out 80 hours’ unpaid work in the community alongside his probation order.
