MARK McGhee today revealed Aberdeen FC have been scouring England in the search for top young talent.
Aberdeen FC were the only Scottish club to have scouts at all three recent FA exit trials.
Youngsters released by Premier League and Championship teams south of the border use the scheme in a bid to find a new club.
The trials were set up to ensure potential stars of the future were given a second chance despite being released.
England legend David Platt is one example of a youngster let go only to then enjoy a career at the highest level and Aberdeen FC boss McGhee is eager to find more gems.
McGhee said: “We had a presence at the exit trials because we will leave no stone unturned in a bid to find quality players.
“As there are no funds for transfer fees, we have to look at places like the English exit trials.
“There is talent down there, and there are players who are not getting a chance because there are too many senior players.
“It’s not a reflection of their ability, and we can take advantage of that.
“I would see that as benefiting from other clubs’ mistakes, rather than taking in cast-offs.”
