ABERDEEN FC keeper Stuart Nelson refuses to let the lack of competitive action kill his dream of a new deal with the club.
The goalie has been restricted to just 90 minutes of competitive football this season after the reserve league was scrapped.
Nelson fears that is robbing him of the chance to impress Aberdeen FC gaffer Mark McGhee.
He has seen too many players condemned to the soccer scrapheap due to the lack of football available.
But he won’t join them, as he has vowed to push first choice Jamie Langfield all the way.
Nelson, who is out of contract at the end of the season, said: “The scrapping of the Reserve League in Scotland has killed a lot of players’ careers.
“Some players have had to leave their teams, because with no reserve league, there is little chance to show what they can do.
“I have had just one start against Falkirk, so I have not really had the chance either.
“The Reserve League was scrapped in the week I signed at Pittodrie last summer.
“The SPL have to look at the situation.
“If players are not getting regular games, some of them will not be up to the standard needed when they are moved into the first team.
“If it is not changed, the SPL will suffer and it will become a poorer league.”
