ABERDEEN FC boss Mark McGhee will this week step up his bid to secure skipper Mark Kerr on a new deal.
Midfielder Kerr is out of contract at the end of the season and has been free to talk to other clubs since January 1.
Negotiations have been on hold due to Aberdeen FC’s hectic fixture schedule in recent weeks.
But with no game this weekend, due to them crashing out of the Scottish Cup, McGhee will move to secure his skipper.
McGhee said: “I will use this week when there are no games to work on the contract situation with Mark Kerr.
“That was discussed with Willie Miller last week and we want to make inroads with Mark over the next few days.
“Hopefully, Mark will be keen to remain at the club beyond the summer.
“The aim is to be a lot further down the road by the end of the week towards getting Mark to stay on a new contract.”
McGhee has already succeeded in securing Richard Foster, Peter Pawlett and Fraser Fyvie on long term deals.
Now he wants Kerr to become the latest player to commit to his vision for the club.
“I have made it perfectly clear to Mark that I want him to stay,” said McGhee.
