Zander leads the way for Aberdeen FC

Boss McGhee’s praise for defender

MARK McGhee today urged struggling Aberdeen FC to show the same grit and determination as defender Zander Diamond.

A 1-1 draw at Hamilton has extended Aberdeen FC’s run of games without a win to nine.

And McGhee reckons the only way they can turn that slump around is if every one of his players shows the same fight and anger as Diamond, who scored the equaliser against Accies.

McGhee said: “I hope Zander’s attitude rubs off on the other players for the rest of the season.

“His attitude was excellent and he showed the rest of them exactly what is required.

“Zander was courageous throughout, and the frustration and anger at recent results were driving him on.

“Zander has been hurt by recent criticism.

“That is the attitude we need for the rest of the season.

“He is a rock at the back but unfortunately missed a lot of the season through injury. Maybe that is one of the reasons why we are not where we would want to be in the league.”

McGhee revealed the entire Aberdeen FC squad are unified to haul themselves out of the slump.

“They feel like the whole world is against them recently,” he said.

“The players have been getting a lot of stick, and have suffered criticism.

“And they are using that as an incentive to do well.

“We are all in this together, and working hard to turn around this run of form.”

Is this the same grit and determination that should have made him captain, injury aside of course.
