POLICE in Aberdeen were today trying to trace two men who fled the scene of a suspicious fire.

Emergency crews rushed to the fire at Newton Terrace, in Aberdeen’s Bucksburn area, when it was reported a car was on fire in a neighbouring park.

Grampian Fire and Rescue Service battled for 20 minutes to put out the fire.

A neighbour, who alerted Grampian Fire and Rescue Service, said: “I saw the car there and within 20 minutes it was on fire and engulfed in flames.

“The car door was open and the guy had run away.

“I called the fire brigade.”

She added: “The flames were stretching up to the sky. The whole car was on fire.

“There was nothing left, just a shell.”

A Grampian Police spokesman said: “We can confirm we attended an incident at Newton Terrace at 8.15am on Wednesday.

“We are keen to trace two men that were seen leaving the scene shortly after the incident. One man had short dark hair and the other was thought to have very short, light hair or possibly a shaved head.”

He added Grampian Police officers were still trying to track down the car’s owner to find out if the car found on fire in at Newton Terrace, in Aberdeen’s Bucksburn area had been stolen or whether the two men had permission to use it.

A fire service spokeswoman said no one was in car at the time of the fire.
