How Wayne Rooney is helping Aberdeen FC find a new striker

Boss McGhee creates striker blueprint

Published: 03/03/2010

ABERDEEN FC boss Mark McGhee today revealed how he is using Manchester United star Wayne Rooney as the benchmark in his hunt for a new striker.

McGhee admitted he can only dream of ever being able to afford to buy someone in Rooney’s league.

But the Aberdeen FC manager has drawn up a list of the England star’s attributes and has used that as his blueprint in the hunt for the best striker that he can afford in the summer.

McGhee said: “I know I won’t be buying a Ferrari-class striker.

“But I can assure you I will buy us the best Ford I can get.”

McGhee believes comparing the attributes Rooney has against those of any potential targets will make it easier to find the right man.

He said: “Drawing up a list of his qualities helps when you are looking for a striker who could do a similar job to Rooney.”

So Wayne is helping AFC to find a striker!? What a completely misleading headline. Where are AFC going to find someone with power, pace, strength, skill and technique like him with the zero money they have! Here's a thought, maybe work out what exactly is up with Wee Chrissy (and play him as a striker) as he was best player on the park for the Scotland U21s last night. 1 goal and an assist.

Even Mickey Rooney would be an improvement on our current strikers.

All this really says is, "I wish I could sign Wayne Rooney". I'm sure most folk do. We will never sign anyone that matches up to Rooney, but should use it as the mould for players coming through the youth system

Nothing to do with this story, but go to The Times online richlist, search Aberdeen, and see how many people from the area are metioned, then wonder why not one of them seems to have put a penny into AFC!!!!!
