PAUL O’GRADY has vowed to help an old friend who is confined to his hospital bed in Aberdeen.

The TV star has pledged support for Aberdeen man Steven McIntyre – who starred alongside him in a panto production of Snow White – by offering to pay for a custom-made wheelchair.

The Evening Express previously revealed how Steven, 36, of Aberdeen, had been stuck in his hospital bed in ARI for almost three weeks, after suffering a severe epileptic fit and becoming unable to walk.

Staff at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary confirmed they had not been able to find a wheelchair for Steven, of Seaton, because of his size.

A spokesman said Aberdeen Royal Infirmary was doing all it could to “speed up the process” of fitting Steven for an appropriate wheelchair.

And a spokeswoman for kind-hearted TV star Paul O’Grady today said he would do all he could to help the Aberdeen actor get mobile again.

Paul O’Grady’s spokeswoman said: “Steven appeared as one of the seven dwarfs when Paul played the Wicked Queen in Snow White in Southampton.

“Paul was very sorry to hear that Steven had been taken ill and he would be happy to help him get a suitable wheelchair so that he can leave hospital.”

The news came as a massive relief to Flora, of Aberdeen’s Mastrick, who is now hoping to speed up the process by organising a wheelchair privately.

“I’m absolutely delighted. Thank you so much,” she said. “I hope we can organise something more quickly now.”
