A POLICE Range Rover was today in a crash with a car after an alleged chase near Aberdeen.
Part of the A90 Aberdeen to Ellon road was closed after the Range Rover collided with a Ford Mondeo.
A man and a woman were in custody after the accident near Balmedie at the Cock & Bull restaurant.
Grampian Police Chief Inspector Ian Wallace said another police car was following the Mondeo towards Aberdeen and the Range Rover was parked at the Cock & Bull restaurant.
Chief Insp Wallace said: “Two police officers were following and attempting to stop the vehicle.
“The Range Rover came out of the car park and entered the carriageway.
“It was a glancing-blow type crash, causing significant damage to the Mondeo.”
Chief Insp Wallace said the Range Rover was not attempting to block the road.
Grampian Police refused to say why the Mondeo was being followed but said it was being pursued for “some time”.
A Grampian Police spokesman said a man and woman, both in their 20s and from England, were held following the crash near Aberdeen.
The two men in the Range Rover were described as “experienced officers”.
The Grampian Police spokesman said: “A police car was involved in a collision with a Ford Mondeo. This occurred when another police car was in pursuit of the Ford Mondeo.”
He added that the Range Rover had its blue lights and sirens on at the time of the crash.
“There were no injuries as a result of the collision,” the Grampian Police spokesman man.
The road was closed to clear up debris and for crash investigators to inspect the scene.
