Speed limit on busy road slashed by Aberdeen Council
New restrictions in bid to improve safety

A STRETCH of road is set to have its speed limit cut in a new safety bid from Aberdeen City Council.
The A944 Aberdeen to Alford road has seen a number of serious crashes in the last year, with two people killed.
Now Aberdeen City Council has decided to cut the 70mph speed limit on the A944 Aberdeen to Alford road, between Kingswells and Westhill, to 50mph.
The move came after four Westhill councillors mounted a road safety campaign.
Councillor Ron McKail today welcomed the news of the new speed limit on the A944 Aberdeen to Alford road.
He said: “It’s going to make the road safer, hopefully.”
A spokeswoman for Aberdeen City Council said: “The proposed speed limit reduction has been considered by the enterprise, planning and infrastructure committee at the various stages of the traffic regulation order process.”
He said it was expected the new 50mph speed limit on the A944 Aberdeen to Alford road, between Kingswells and Westhill, would be introduced in the summer.
A married couple from Airyhall in Aberdeen were killed in an accident on the 70mph stretch of road in February last year.
William Cable, 79, and his wife Elizabeth, 78, died after a collision with a Nissan Skyline.
Their Vauxhall Corsa flipped into a field near the Five Mile Garage.
Meanwhile, speed limits on stretches of the B9119 Carnie to Echt road and Garlogie to Westhill road are also set to be reduced at Garlogie from 50mph to 40mph, after Garioch members approved the proposal.
