FREEZING temperatures made Aberdeen one of the coldest spots in the UK.
And weather experts warned more snow and freezing conditions were on the way today.
Aberdeen was a chilly -9C (15.8F) while, on Deeside, the mercury dipped to -18C (-0.3F) in Braemar and -10C (14F) in Aboyne.
Met Office forecaster Dave Elliot today said temperatures were to remain below freezing throughout the region into tonight.
He said: “It will be another cold night with clear skies and light winds.
“Most places will be between -7C (19.4F) and -8C (17.6F) but some places could see -15C (5F).”
Today temperatures on the coast were not expected to reach more than 4C (39F) and the highest temperature inland was to be 1C (33.8F) or 2C (35.6F).
As well as icy temperatures, snow showers were today due to fall inland, with Aboyne and Huntly expected to be the worst hit, while sleet was to fall in coastal areas like Peterhead and Stonehaven.
Forecaster Mr Elliot predicted a “light covering of snow” which he thought would be “a few centimetres at most”.
The freezing conditions caused two schools in Aberdeenshire to close today.
There was further disruption to public transport at The Gordon’s School, in Huntly. Stagecoach buses were not running from the Insch depot until further notice.
And pupils who take the bus to Sandhaven School, in Fraserburgh, were to remain home today.
The disruption was due to the Sandhaven to Fraserburgh Road being closed.
