Piccolo Pizza: Jesmond Drive, Aberdeen

IT’S been years since I’ve “gone local” when it comes to ordering a takeaway pizza.
I’ve always gone with the mega-chains but who knows what delights I’ve been missing out on closer to home?
Piccolo attracted us because of the buy-one-get-one-free deal that flashed invitingly on the website.
I went for the 12-inch Piccolo Special (£11.50) – a meat-lover’s delight with chilli beef, ham, pepperoni and American sausage as well as mushrooms, mixed peppers and onions.
As with all of these mighty meat concoctions, it was impossible to taste any of the individual flavours but that’s not really the point is it? It’s what the flavours and textures taste like together that counts, and this one was delicious.
My wife liked her spicy £11 Eastern (onions, jalapeno peppers, mixed peppers and tandoori chicken) but was put off by the soggy base.
But one thing she couldn’t complain about was the price.
The entire meal – along with surprisingly-tender sticky ribs, coleslaw and two cans of Coke – came to £19.90.
