Video: Aberdeen’s Marchburn School torn down

Northfield building demolished

THE walls of an Aberdeen school came tumbling down today to make way for new council houses.

Marchburn Infant School, which opened in 1950, closed its doors two years ago.

And today dust filled the air around the Northfield building as it was demolished.

In its place, 35 new council homes will be created as part of a £4.9 million project.

The houses are to be built from December as part of the Homezone development, which will see more than 100 new houses being built across Aberdeen.

The family homes are to be built in a courtyard layout, to encourage neighbours to mix.

Aberdeen City Council’s housing and environment convener, Councillor Aileen Malone, said: “I’m glad to see the site being cleared today. It will be used for a better purpose – for much-needed family housing.

“Considering there are 6,000 people – and growing – on the housing waiting list, this development will make a positive impact for Aberdeen.”
