A MAN was today fighting for his life after his car skidded off a busy road, crashed through a fence and flipped.

It was the believed the man’s red Mini slid sideways, clipped a grass verge and rolled before it crashed through a fence and landed in the field 50 metres from the road.

The driver, who was in his 50s, had to be cut free from the crash wreckage and was taken by ambulance to Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin suffering from serious head injuries.

He was later transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and today he remained in a critical condition.

The car was heading towards Fochabers when it crashed on the A98 between the village and Buckie.

Emergency crews were called to the crash outside Boyd Food Machinery, near Arradoul, at 4.20pm yesterday.

Inspector Scott Mann, from Grampian Police roads policing department, said the man was from the Fochabers area.

He added: “Our inquiries are at a very early stage and the road remained closed for several hours while collision investigators examined the scene.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision, or its immediate aftermath, who has not yet spoken to police, to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, officers were called to a separate crash on the A90 Aberdeen to Stonehaven road near Drumlithie.

A man was taken to hospital after his Volkswagen Passat was in a crash with a lorry at 6.40pm yesterday.

A Grampian Police spokesman said: “The driver of the car was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with minor injuries. He had suffered cuts and bruises. The driver of the lorry was uninjured.”
