NEW Peterhead signing Paul Emslie hopes to catch the eyes of the scouts during his spell at Balmoor.
The 21-year-old Aberdonian has signed on loan from Glasgow giants Rangers until the end of the season and is determined to make an impression with the Blue Toon and boss Neale Cooper, pictured.
With his Ibrox deal set to expire at the end of the season, Emslie is hoping some eye-catching displays can win him a new deal elsewhere.
He said: “I have been trying to get out on loan for some time to get some games under my belt.
“The Rangers dream is probably over for me, I am 22 next month and I want to try to get fixed up with another club but I need to be playing regular football to do that.
“Having no reserve football has been a bit of a disaster for players my age at Rangers.
“For maybe 10 of us the best we could really hope for is a game every three weeks, which just isn’t enough.”
Rangers beat off competition from Celtic and Chelsea to snap up the former Hazlehead Academy pupil when he was 16 after he impressed against them in a friendly for Albion Boys’ Club.
Although he made his Gers debut in September 2007, the Scotland Under-20 international has struggled to force his way past the galaxy of international stars at the champions.
Despite this, he insists he has no regrets about trying his luck in Glasgow.
He said: “The first three years especially were brilliant.
“I got to train on a regular basis with some of the best players in the country and that was just fantastic.
“Barry Ferguson was outstanding, his passing and ability on the ball was tremendous – he was great with us young players too.
“I know I am good enough to play in the SPL but I just need a chance to prove myself.
“I will hopefully get a good run of games under my belt here and we will see what happens – I am not ruling anything out and that includes playing in England.”
Emslie is set to make his Blue Toon debut away at Cowdenbeath on Saturday.
He admits his familiarity with the club made it an easy decision to come back to the North-east on loan.
He said: “Being from Aberdeen I knew Peterhead would be a good loan move.
“I know a few of the players already, like Neil McVitie and Davie Donald from playing against them when they were at Aberdeen.
“I know there are good footballers here and Neale Cooper played at the very top as a midfielder so I am sure I will learn a lot from him.”
