FINDING myself in Amsterdam this week, I’m feasting on chips with mayonnaise.
They’re absolutely delicious!
I’ve scoffed about a dozen trays of the stuff from street vendors in the last 48 hours and my appetite has yet to be sated.
(Don’t allow yourself to drift into the cycle lanes by the way, they don’t take any prisoners here).
The Dutch chips and mayo rule – they’re a gastronomic experience akin to that slice of cake served up by The Merovingian in The Matrix Reloaded!
If only it was this good back home using a frozen bag from the supermarket and a jar of Hellmans.
The opportunity to experience other cultures for a short time is one of the best things about travelling abroad.
I’ve been very lucky to have visited some fascinating, far-off lands.
Sampling another country’s food and drink is the peak of the cultural experience for me, as you no doubt may have guessed.
You simply can’t beat tucking into fresh croissants in gay Paris or gulping down a pint of Guinness in Ireland.
I do hope the droves of tourists who flock to our land for a chance to spy Nessie each year enjoy the haggis and the deep fried Mars bars as much as they do the whisky.
It’s also a strange quirk of the travelling act that we can absorb the culture and practices of the places we visit beyond our stay.
I’ve spent some time in the States on both business and pleasure to the point where these days I find myself throwing a hissy fit if we’re out of peanut butter and jelly or ice-cream.
After learning the hard way, I now know to keep the cupboards well stocked with my essentials, including an emergency tub of Haagen-Dazs in the freezer when self-pity rules my gut.
No need for that at the moment though.
The first single from my new album is entitled This Ol’ World.
Amsterdam has provided the perfect opportunity for a photo shoot for the single artwork. So, I’ve been pouting and posing all day long like Posh Spice buying milk in Tesco!
