AN ABERDEEN dad has for the first time publicly paid tribute to his son who had a “God-given gift” for music.
Musician Jason Rae, 31, who was married to chart-topper Corrine Bailey Rae, died from an accidental overdose.
The saxophonist’s dad Alistair Rae, who lives with his wife Lily in Cairncry Road, Aberdeen, said: “He had a very strong personality. He was a leader. Jason would have been as shocked as anybody, as everything was going so well for him with his career.
“But just like that he was gone.”
The former Oldmachar Academy pupil died in March 2008 in a Leeds flat from an overdose of alcohol and methadone.
But Mr Rae, who raised Jason as a Mormon, said he was unaware his son had ever taken illegal substances.
A coroner recorded the verdict as death by misadventure.
And now Ms Bailey Rae has dedicated her new album to her late husband.
The singer, who found fame with her song Put Your Record On, has released her second album The Sea in memory of Jason.
The album’s first track Are You Here describes the loss of a loved one.
Ms Bailey Rae said: “Someone might listen to the song and be confused by the tenses.
“I talk in the present tense.
“That’s because when you lose someone, you often can’t begin to think of them in the past tense.”
