Barry may be in frame for Scotland comeback

Levein wants Ferguson in national squad

Published: 26/01/2010

CRAIG Levein will meet Barry Ferguson in a bid to persuade the midfielder to follow Allan McGregor and Kris Boyd in returning to the Scotland set-up.

The Rangers pair have already agreed to resume their international careers and Levein will now turn to former skipper Ferguson before his first match as manager against the Czech Republic at Hampden on March 3.

Boyd has lifted his self-imposed exile after being consistently overlooked by former boss George Burley, while McGregor jumped at the chance to resurrect his international career.

Now Ferguson, the goalkeeper’s partner in crime in the “Boozegate” scandal and gestures to cameras that followed, will be offered the same opportunity.

The Birmingham player, whose form has helped City to an unprecedented 15-match unbeaten run, has admitted interest in making an international comeback.

And Levein hopes to cement a return when he meets the 31-year-old.

“I very much want him to be part of the international set-up, I think he’s one of our best players,” Levein said.

“I saw him play a couple of weeks ago and he did very well.

“Funnily enough, I bumped into him more than anything else and had a brief discussion with him but that’s not the same as having a meeting with somebody.

“I hope to get round the table and find out exactly where we are.”

Nobody is expecting miracles, but it would be nice to see the players playing with their hearts, when they put the Scotland jersey on. Legs go for it, and be proud of Scotland AGAIN !!!!!
