HUNDREDS of travellers faced delays at Aberdeen Airport after driving snow forced the runway to close.
Heavy blizzards over Dyce saw the airport grind to a halt for two hours yesterday, with delays and cancellations to flights in and out of Aberdeen today.
The terminal closed for business at 2.30pm yesterday, seeing major delays and queues of worried passengers.
Snow ploughs got to work clearing the runway and staff helped to de-ice the planes.
Six inches of snow blanketed the upper floor of the airport’s new car park, which had been closed for the day. And only a handful of buses made their way through the terminal in the space of two hours.
The closure meant Jane Dent’s journey home to Stavangar, Norway, could be delayed by more than 24 hours. The 50-year-old said: “I'm trying to keep calm.”
Mike Webster, 46, of Woodside, flew into Aberdeen after working in the North Sea since Christmas Eve.
And with empty taxi ranks, he struggled to get home. He said: “The runway was really bad when we were landing. It’s the most snow I’ve seen since I was a kid.”
