Video: Snow forces Aberdeen schools to close

Thousands of pupils forced to stay home

Published: 05/01/2010

EVERY school in Aberdeenshire will close for a second day as a result of blizzards sweeping the North-east, it was announced this afternoon.

The authority’s director of education said all 172 schools would remain shut, with further snow expected.

Bruce Robertson said: “The decision to close schools isn’t one that is taken lightly, but the health and safety of staff and pupils is our key priority.”

More than 30 Aberdeen schools were hit by closures today as heavy snow continued to batter the region.

Leisure centres, libraries and community centres throughout Aberdeenshire were also closed.
