WEATHER experts were today warning that further snow was expected in the Aberdeen area on Christmas Day.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “It will remain very cold in most areas today and we could see up to 2in of snowfall by the afternoon.

“Temperatures had already dropped to -16C (3F) at Braemar overnight and -4C (25F) at Dyce in Aberdeen.”

He added: “The weather will be dry and frosty tomorrow and there will be the chance of wintry snow showers again on Christmas Day.”

The Aberdeen area has been left reeling from a ferocious blast of snow.

Heavy snowfalls and freezing weather paralysed Aberdeen.

Major roads in Aberdeen were shut and rural communities cut off.

Even ambulances heading to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary were left stranded as lorries blocked roads.

And Aberdeen’s Market Street, Anderson Drive, North Anderson Drive, the Haudagain roundabout, Bridge of Dee roundabout, Garthdee Road and Westburn Road were all closed to traffic at various points.

Queues of people waited at bus stops in Aberdeen city centre, with delays of up to half an hour.

Local authorities said they had thrown all their resources at the blizzard.

Aberdeen Airport was hit by a string of delays and cancellations when the weather disrupted flight schedules.

Michael Lacey, 61, a joiner from Peterhead who was hoping to fly to Toronto, described being grounded as “awful”.

The Royal Mail also faced problems due to the wintry weather.

Thousands of online shoppers might not receive Christmas gifts, with delivery vans struggling to reach some addresses.
