£5,000 skating rink unveiled to public in Drumoak

VISITORS to a garden centre near Aberdeen have taken to the ice.
Mains of Drum customers were able to pull on their boots after the Drumoak store hired a £5,000 skating rink.
Skaters will be able to take to the 32ft x 32ft rink until tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Aberdeen’s only skating rink has reopened to the public after being shut for almost two years.
Skaters returned to the Linx Ice Arena at the beach as the doors were finally flung open to the public.
Aberdeen City Council had mothballed the sports facility in March 2008 as part of cost-cutting measures. The centre was shut following months of uncertainty and a £1.45 million refurbishment.
But now the facility has been opened to the public after hosting the European Curling Championships earlier this month.
Aberdeen Linx Skating Club chairwoman Liz Cameron said: “Having the facility reopen has made us realise that we can’t let it close again. We have to make sure that it is financially viable.”
