BLIZZARD conditions were set to engulf the Aberdeen area this weekend.
One of Aberdeenshire’s roads has already been closed after snow fell overnight.
And forecasters predicted heavier and more widespread snow should fall in the Aberdeen area tomorrow.
Motorists were today being diverted away from the B974 Banchory to Marykirk road at Cairn o’ Mount.
The A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road was closed between the junction of the B966 Brechin to Fettercairn road and the junction of the A935 Brechin to Montrose road but was re-opened today.
Weather experts today said the snow looked set to continue into next week.
Met Office forecaster Helen Chivers said: “There will be some snow showers around throughout the day and we could see up to 1.9in (5cm) in places like Banchory and Aboyne, with a light dusting in Aberdeen.
“Overnight the temperatures will fall to around -2C (28F) in the city and -4C (25F) in Ballater.”
Miss Chivers said tomorrow would see up to 3.9in (10cm) of snow falling in Aboyne and Braemar, with up to 1.9in (5cm) falling in Aberdeen.
She added: “On Sunday we will see a very cold day and it should stay mainly dry but we will see some wintry showers returning to northern areas such as Fraserburgh and Peterhead on Monday and Tuesday.”
Meanwhile, bookmakers William Hill have made the Granite City firm favourite to have a white Christmas with odds of 11-8 being offered for snow to fall on December 25.
