RYAN Strachan is ready to take a step back to help Peterhead go forward.
With Callum McDonald injured, Strachan is the leading contender to partner Bobby Mann at centre-half against Cowdenbeath tomorrow.
Strachan has been playing in midfield for the Blue Toon this season, but he took over McDonald’s position when the skipper had to go off in Tuesday night’s 1-0 defeat at Dumbarton.
The 19-year-old has plenty of previous experience from playing at centre-half in his younger days, and has no problems featuring in that role again.
Strachan said: “I went back into defence as soon as Callum got injured so I played there for most of the match.
“I was centre-half for a few games in pre-season.
“But ever since we played Aberdeen FC, I have been in midfield.”
An injury to a team-mate when he was an Aberdeen FC youth player saw Strachan change position.
He said: “I played midfield up until I was 15, but then after that I became a centre-half.
“One of the defenders was injured, so I stepped forward and said I would play there.
“I have experience of both positions, but probably more so in defence.”
