Alex Salmond’s Christmas card painting to boost Aberdeen charity

Alex Salmond unveils painting

A CANCER charity in the Aberdeen area is set to benefit from the sale of a painting featured on First Minister Alex Salmond’s Christmas card.

The picture, painted by Scottish artist Gerard Burns and called The New Journey, shows a girl looking out across a wintry landscape carrying a Saltire.

First Minister Alex Salmond launched the image for his official Christmas card at Duff House in Banff.

The original of last year’s Christmas card, a painting of Macduff harbour by Scottish artist John Bellany, was sold for £10,000 at auction.

Aberdeen Cyrenians received a £2,500 share of the cash.

Good causes set to benefit this time include children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent, which carries out some of its work in the Aberdeen area.
