CHRISTMAS cheer flooded Aberdeen with a fantastic display of talent from musical youngsters.

Beaming pupils sparkled on stage for the sell-out 42nd annual Evening Express Carol Concert.

The Music Hall was brimming with festive spirit when more than 1,000 people packed the house.

Host Ken McLeod said: “In the years I’ve been involved in the Evening Express Carol Concert, I‘ve never seen such a varied and talented programme as tonight’s.”

Evening Express Editor Damian Bates thanked everyone who helped raise £5,000. All the money will go towards the Community Chest awards next spring.

He said: “How wonderful it is once again to celebrate the amazing talent of our young people with this fabulous night.”

Loirston Primary School Infant Choir kicked off the event with a heart-warming performance when more than 70 adorable tots shuffled on stage in their pyjamas and with their teddy bears.

Bucksburn Academy’s Steel Band gave the North Pole’s favourite song Jingle Bells a Caribbean twist.

The night’s two other choirs, Albyn School Choir and Ellon Academy Choir, hit all the right notes. Albyn’s colourful kilts and smooth singing proved to be a cracking combination, while Ellon pupils effortlessly harmonised a toe-tapping version of Let It Snow.

Roars of applause greeted both the Mackie Academy Concert Band and Ellon Academy Jazz Band’s melody-driven sets. And the Aberdeen Youth Brass Band capped the evening with some more magical mistletoe music.
