A MURDER probe has been launched after a man’s body was found in a flat in Peterhead.

Police swooped on a property after the 28-year-old’s body was discovered in a flat on Peterhead’s Maiden Street.

Police were stationed at the street today and the road was taped off.

Forensics officers also examined the scene and an incident unit was set up.

Police were called to the Peterhead flat at around 4pm yesterday.

Grampian Police today confirmed they were investigating the death, which officers said was being treated as suspicious.

And a police spokesman said two people had been arrested in connection with the incident. A police spokesman said: “A 33-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman have been arrested regarding the death which is being treated as suspicious.

“A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal at Peterhead.”

It was understood the pair are expected to appear at Peterhead Sheriff Court tomorrow.

Maiden Street road was closed off at its junction with Erroll Street and Tolbooth Wynd today.

And Love Lane, which leads to Maiden Street, was also closed off.

A Peterhead councillor was today upset by the news.

Cllr Anne Allan said: “I am shocked to hear of this. It is terrible news.

“I feel really sorry for the family of the victim, it will be a terrible shock for them.”
