AFTER raising more than £125,000 for charity in 25 years, an Aberdeen man is preparing another Christmas lights spectacular in his front garden.

Eddie Stevenson, 65, is putting the finishing touches to this year’s Christmas lights display.

Eddie, of Aberdeen’s Ashgrove Road West, has upgraded parts of his nativity scene and is replacing part of the Ferris wheel, which will take centre stage in his seasonal display.

Technical wizard Eddie said: “I have been building a new nativity scene and the electrics on the big wheel have been repaired.

“It will take me and some friends the whole day to get it all out and wired up.

“I’m going to put out the old favourites, such as Thomas the Tank Engine and In the Night Garden characters.”

Despite the £15 weekly electricity bill to power the Christmas lights, Eddie was determined to continue with his display.

He said: “I have people asking me in August when the lights are going on. They look forward to it.

“I wouldn’t want to disappoint people by not putting them on.

“I do it for the kids and to raise money for charity. “The cost to myself doesn't matter at all.”

Throughout the years his most popular characters have included the Teletubbies, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Cinderella’s glass coach, Snow White and her seven dwarfs, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.

Eddie, who used to work as a technical development officer at the University of Aberdeen, is still undecided over which charity should benefit this year.
