‘It will be frightening if Aberdeen FC don’t move’

Says chairman Stewart Milne

ABERDEEN FC chairman Stewart Milne today warned the future for the club will be “frightening” if they fail to move to a new stadium at Loirston.

Milne claimed Aberdeen FC will struggle if they don’t gain permission to quit Pittodrie and relocate.

Milne pulled no punches in an exclusive interview with the Evening Express in the wake of the club’s 106th annual meeting at Pittodrie.

He admitted finding the £30 million-plus it will take to build the new stadium is “a huge challenge.”

But the Pittodrie chief, pictured, admitted the future for Aberdeen FC is bleak if they fail to deliver on their vow to have moved into the new stadium at Loirston Loch by 2013.

Milne said: “Unless we relocate we will face major problems and that’s the last thing I want to see happening.

“The thought of what will happen if we fail is something I would rather not even think about.

“That’s why we are committed to the project.”

What will be frightening will be attendances on a tuesday night in december versus St Mirren or Kilmarnock if go to Loriston. CIS cup attendances will be even more frightening.

Get a grip. It's only Loriston, not Lossiemouth.

why exactly would it be frightening for Milne George??? Phil's right, the way some are carrying on you'd think AFC were trying to pull a Wimbledon.

The fact we havent won a trophy in god knows how many years is frightening. What concerns me is the cost of this new stadium and how AFC are going to get the funding to build it. Don't get me wrong i think we need a new stadium but where is the cash coming from to build it???

from my understanding of the plans and finances Bill the money will be raised from lots of different sources but none of those will impact on the club as such. AFC will be debt free or as good as when Pittodrie is sold and we move into the new place which can only be a good thing.

I agree with the majority that a new stadium would definitely be beneficial. All these people who oppose any development in Aberdeen seriously need to take a good look at what Aberdeen has to offer as a city... A new stadium – new opportunities – I believe there was a youth development center etc included with the proposal? Can’t be a bad thing! It’s similar to all the past rubbish with Donald Trump’s plans – let the man build and INVEST in our City...

same spin; different location - remember 5 years back or so, when we were told that bellfield farm nr kingswells was the only viable alternative (believe SM had 1st option on purchase of land ?) anyone who has been to Livingston will know what to expect with a move to some suburban hole - can you imagine hearts, hibs;celtic, rangirs fans relocation without a fight ? - still not convinced updating our spiritual home is such a bad idea

It is the traffic problem that I am concerned about. It takes a good half hour to get from Bridge of Don to Pittodrie on a midweek game night, with our road network christ knows how long it will take to get to cove.
