Conger eel released from aquarium to find mate
Eelvis set free into Moray Firth

A CONGER eel named after the king of rock ’n’ roll shimmied to freedom in the Moray Firth and swam off to find a mate.
After five years in residence at Macduff’s marine aquarium, Eelvis the conger eel was allowed to leave the building.
The conger eel had to suffer the indignity of being coaxed into a lifting bag in the aquarium’s main tank.
Eelvis was then hoisted by crane to the seashore before being released into the Moray Firth.
Eelvis, who is more than 6ft long, now faces a swim of about 2,000 miles to Atlantic waters off the Azores where he will try to pair up with a partner.
