Thai Cottage: Rose Street, Aberdeen

AFTER realising I wasn’t actually going to cook and risk missing the Doctor Who special, my girlfriend allowed us a take-away.

And feeling like a change from my usual curry-fiend antics, we decided to visit Thai Cottage.

Oddly, our starter of golden triangles (£3.90) bridged the Indian/Oriental divide, essentially being spring rolls in the shape of pakora.

Unfortunately it was pastry-heavy and filling-light. Thankfully, not a problem shared by the fantastically crispy and grease-free wun tun (£2.90).

My basil beef packed a kick, with a flavourful and spicy sauce and plenty of the green stuff adding an interesting twist (£5.30).

My girlfriend was equally happy with her sweet and sour chicken (£4.90). The sauce was sharp and lacked the artificial taste that can sometimes come with it.

Usually bland, some plain fried noodles (£1.90) were savoury and moreish. And although I’m ashamed to admit ordering them, the chips (£1.80) were excellent.
