NEWLYWED Laurie Ingram followed a US trend when she decided to trash her wedding dress.

A week after tying the knot, the 23-year-old donned her £1,200, specially-designed dress and headed to Newburgh Beach with her six-year-old horse Billi.

The former Dyce Academy pupil then galloped through the sea and sand on her steed.

At one point Laurie, an administrator for Baker Hughes, was in the sea up to her knees with the wedding dress billowing around her.

Laurie, who lives near Newmachar, married farmer Andrew, 28, at St Machar’s Cathedral in Aberdeen.

She decided on the idea after reading about it in a magazine.

“I thought it seemed a bit different and would be a laugh,” Laurie said.

“I was finished with my dress and knew I’d never need it again so I thought, why not trash it?”

Laurie, who is chairwoman of Ythan Riding Club, was joined on the beach by her parents Gordon and Jackie McKay.

She said: “We started off galloping, then me and Billi both went walking into the sea. It was a nice day so there were quite a few people there taking pictures of me.”

Laurie’s decision stunned her family and friends.

She said: “My dad was a bit nervous but afterwards he thought it was a good laugh. And my friends thought it was funny – but couldn’t believe I’d done it.”

Laurie’s dress is now drying out at her parents’ house.
