The Illicit Still: Guest Row, Aberdeen

AFTER a hard day, there was no better remedy than meeting up with friends for some wholesome food.
So the cosy intimacy of the Illicit Still seemed perfect. Kristen, Meesh and I found a table at the back and studied the menu.
We opted to share nachos (£4.45) with added guacamole (50p) for a starter.
The mountain of cheese, toasted chips and dollop of sour cream were full of flavour.
However, the tangy salsa had an artificial aftertaste that was a little disappointing.
The huge portion was too big for the three of us, but we chowed our way through until there was almost nothing left.
Next I opted for Highland Chicken (£8.25). The mountain of steamed carrots, courgette and cauliflower were cooked to perfection and the chicken breast was succulent.
A bit more haggis wouldn’t have gone amiss in this tasty dish, though.
Meesh opted for the haddock supper (£7.95) although she wasn't prepared for the whale they brought out.
The beer batter was tasty and the fish was flaky, if a little bland. However, the caper salad made up for that.
Kristen opted for the vegetable fajitas (£6.95).
She was dazzled by the large selection of vegetables including water chestnuts, green beans and butternut squash.
However she did find the fajita dressing a little greasy.
