IF YOU dream of escaping city life for a place in the country, then this property could be perfect for you.

Located in a quiet spot in Oldmeldrum, the big four-bedroom house backs on to the town’s primary school, making it a great option for families.

And according to Colin Greig the town has everything residents could want right on the doorstep.

“Oldmeldrum is a lovely, quiet place to live with excellent schools,” said the 43-year-old offshore service engineer.

“And Inverurie is just five minutes away, with all the shops there including a new M&S.

“Everything you need is nearby. It’s an easy commute into Westhill or Dyce too, so you’d never have to go right back into Aberdeen if you didn’t want to.

“Everything we need is right here.”

Originally from Hilton, Colin and his wife Tania, a 33-year-old management accountant at Schlumberger, bought the house on Provost Florence Drive two years ago when it was new. Since then the couple have stylishly decorated the property with a keen eye for colour and design.

Downstairs, the big, light-filled rooms are shown off to their maximum potential in a gentle lime shade.

Upstairs, the bedrooms have neutral tones teamed with striking feature walls in prints or bright colours.

Colin said: “We were drawn to this property because the rooms were all so big. But it was the kitchen that really caught my wife’s attention. As soon as we walked in that was it – we just got a feel for the place.”

When Colin is home from his stints offshore, rest and relaxation is key.

So it’s no surprise that he cites the lounge or family room as his favourite places in the house.

On open plan with the big dining kitchen, the family room is a lovely sociable space, ideal for get-togethers.

And while mum and dad relax there, their son Alexander can often be found in the adjoining sun room, with his toys strewn across the floor.

He has adopted the big bright room – which has French doors leading out to the patio – as his playroom,

And in nice weather Alexander makes the most of the huge garden, where he has a swing set and slide.

Colin thinks this home will be perfect for another family like theirs.

He said: “It’s a great area and the neighbours are really nice.

“One thing that was really important to us was the local schools – and they are just excellent. Oldmeldrum Primary is almost next door, and it has had excellent marks in all its reports.

“And the academy also has a very good reputation.

“We hope to stay nearby so Alexander can carry on at the same school.”

Although the Greigs have loved their stay in Provost Florence Drive, they are now looking for a slightly smaller property to suit their little family.

Colin added: “We have decided to downsize but another family will make the most of this big house.”
